Eco Saviors

Environmental Society of the college spread awareness of the environmental consciousness among students. Seminars, demonstrations and activities have been done for plantation, natural disaster management etc. Few steps taken by the college to conserve environment and energy are as follows:


  • The College has replaced all old ACs with new star rated ones as per government directives.
  • Replacement of conventional bulbs and CFLs with LED lights has been initiated by the College.
  • The use of plastic is discouraged and so are the use of disposable cups and plates is discouraged in Canteen.
  • Compliance of the Hon’ble Supreme Court order on the burning of leaves is ensured.
  • Plantation drives are undertaken on the campus to augment green cover.


WASTE MANAGEMENT

The waste management committee (WMC) actively and efficiently deals with the paper waste, food & organic waste and electronic waste (e-waste) generated within the college premise. Municipal Corporation of Delhi (Central Zone) has designated P.G.D.A.V. College (Evening) a Zero Waste Institution for its commendable efforts for wet and dry waste segregation, on-site composting and proper implementation of single use plastic (SUP) ban within the college campus.






ELECTRONIC AND ELECTRICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT
  • E-waste management: The WMC manages the e-waste generated by the college and collected from the teaching and non-teaching staff and students.














PAPER WASTE MANAGEMENT
  • The college has collaborated with Jagruti (https://we-recycle.org/), an organization which deals with waste paper recycling in Delhi-NCR region.  





                             





       

       
       
PLASTIC AND POLYMER WASTE MANAGEMENT 
  • The college effectively manages the plastic waste in the collaboration of IPCA. 




FOOD WASTE MANAGEMENT
  • College has collaborated with Hunger Heroes Feeding India Initiative (http://www.feedingindia.org/for unused and excess food management generated from college canteen and other functions like seminars. Unused and excess food is donated to Feeding India free of cost. Volunteers from Feeding India collect food materials immediately after the function. Collected food is distributed in nearby shelter clusters. Quality control, assurance and hygienic practices are implemented in the entire process.   

  • Two compost pits have been constructed in the college premise to effectively decompose organic waste (Dry leaves and grasses, Kitchen waste etc.).











TIDE TURNER PLASTIC CHALLENGE


  • An Environmental audit in the college premise was conducted by 2 membered expert team on the initiative of Principal, P.G.D.A.V. College (Evening). The Environmental Audit Report illustrates the floral diversity of the campus including all the green initiatives taken by the evening college.
